In August 2023, following a rigorous tender process, NSS was awarded the Midlothian Council window cleaning contract. The project required delivering a high-quality, consistent cleaning service across a diverse portfolio of council buildings, including Town Hall, leisure centres, libraries, children’s homes, social worker offices, council offices, and primary and secondary schools.
Given the scale and diversity of the sites, it was essential to ensure clear communication, operational alignment, and a proactive approach to risk management from the outset. The challenge lay in mobilising a large, varied contract efficiently—ensuring all stakeholders understood the scope of works, expectations, and key performance indicators (KPIs) while maintaining service quality, compliance, and reliability across multiple facilities.

The Solution
From our local office in Falkirk, we initiated a robust mobilisation process designed to engage all stakeholders early, aligning on objectives and identifying potential challenges before service delivery began. This collaborative start ensured clarity of roles, responsibilities, and performance standards, enabling proactive solutions and smooth operations from day one.
To maintain service quality and operational oversight, NSS appointed a dedicated Area Manager and an SSSTS-trained Supervisor to oversee daily operations. The Supervisor—being local to the Midlothian area—provides immediate on-site support and rapid response to any issues that arise. This local leadership ensures a seamless, reliable service and strengthens relationships with council representatives.
The contract is delivered by a qualified two-person cleaning team, both local specialists with extensive experience and the necessary training and tools to uphold NSS’s high standards of safety and quality. This local deployment reflects our broader commitment to excellence, transparency, and dependable service.
Quality is at the core of NSS operations. We are fully accredited to ISO 9001, the globally recognised standard for quality management, and proud members of the Federation of Window Cleaners. Our values of “Continuous Improvement” and “Dependable Service” drive our approach—focusing on customer satisfaction, reliability, and exceeding expectations wherever possible. We actively seek feedback and use it to enhance our processes, preventing complacency and promoting ongoing improvement.
To achieve optimal results while reducing environmental impact, NSS utilises water-fed pole systems with ultra-pure water, eliminating the need for detergents or chemicals. This method ensures spotless, streak-free finishes while supporting sustainability and cost efficiency.
